These antlers and I have worked together. I imagine a scene and enjoy the rapid firing of scoping my collection of antlers trying to find the right one for what it is I see inside my imagination. These carvings are true one of a kinds that are created through immense channelled emotions and with no time limitations.

Oak Base 17" x 9 1/2" x 1"
SOLD

This particular moose antler I found in the summer of 1996 east of Prince George. It wasn't until 2001 did I know what would become of it. While admiring the shape, a scene of a fly fisherman catching a fish developed before my eyes. The scene was so vivid that it wasn't at all difficult to begin cutting. Upon completion of the carving, I felt no connection between the man and fish had been made. This was solved by applying fishing line from the man's reel through one of the tines and into the fish's mouth.

Feel the vigorous struggle and the taut fishing line. Imagine the fluttering end of the fishing rod while listening to the water splashing as the fish dances across the surface trying to free itself. How does the story end? The fish was caught. And then released.

I found this shed antler in 1996 while out exploring new territory East of Prince George. I'm sure the moose that displayed this set of antlers was impressive to say the least. This carving depicts a mountain goat climbing onto a rock cliff and has been titled, The Mountaineer. By viewing the lower part of the carving, the brow tine, one can see another section of the rock's exposed surface. The base for this antler has been carefully prepared not to overpower the carving but to become complimentary.

Oak Base 9 ½" x 17" x ¾"

This carving was awarded Honorable Mention in Prince George's Art Fest 2001. Selected by jury, it toured with other fine works throughout the central interior of British Columbia. This piece has had years of decisions put into it. Two originals had been sketched onto the surface of the antler, but neither seemed appropriate. The carving, while in its infancy, went through many changes in order to capture the bear as the prominent feature. The outside edge of the antler has been stained darker to offer an almost framed appearance.

The Rut

This piece is very special to me. I thought my art was going into a direction that would find me combining my pointillism technique with antlers. The moose and their surroundings drawn on the paddles have been created by hand and by tiny dots, pointillism.

A one of a kind original, titled ‘The Rut’ was the name given for this beautiful naturally shed moose antler. Awesome, to observe the majestic headgear a Bull Moose displays during this fall courtship time of year.
To date, this is the only piece where I had dotted the images onto an antler.

This was my very first attempt at antler carving. It was created for my uncle as a Christmas gift. We, my uncle and I, would faithfully in November head to a cabin owned by his parents that has now been handed down to the next generation. I can’t begin to tell about all the incredible outdoor experiences I’ve been blessed with. We go to Loon Lake to hunt deer each year and each year we return with nothing but stories. If it had to be said, we were successful in our quest.
